Without an understanding of what programming languages are you are stuck in a bubble! This is where VB programmers get trapped! They learn one (horrible) language and they never expand their knowledge into other places. Sad, sad sad... Before you can learn the structured languages have, you need to know generically what languages are, where they come from, what they do, how they execute, etc... Knowing this will give you an amazing perspective on how to select a language for the job at hand!
